Shell Trading

Challenge

In 2012 Shell Oil Company relocated its three local trading groups into 300,000 square feet of the 1000 Main building. The former space was not designed for trading and lacked the technology infrastructure and redundancies required for trading commodities. The new space was designed around the technology infrastructure necessary to provide the users with high speed communications at their desktop.

Solution

With an almost impossible project timeline, Shell looked to MCA Communications to be part of the project team tasked with renovating 9 floors within just under 4 months. The project would require working multiple crews and shifts around the clock an at times. In addition to the fast turnaround, MCA had to overcome the design challenges of integrating new technology into a renovated space. The IT technology infrastructure included over 10,000 high speed data connections and a fiber optic backbone between floors. The project was completed on time and with zero accidents.
